Chris Arshad - Multi-sport Camp (Coed)
Chris Arshad was born and raised in San Mateo where he graduated from Hillsdale High School in 2013. Chris dedicated his time and effort on four years of varsity basketball for the Hillsdale Knights. He currently attends the College of San Mateo in pursuit of his bachelors degree in marketing. Chris is very passionate about fitness, being outdoors, and various sports!

This will be Chris's first year as Assistant Director (Multi-Sport) for Spartans Sports Camp.

Tim Kirkendall - Basketball (Boys)
Coach Kirkendall has played 18 years of competitive basketball, including 4 years at Pioneer High School and 4 years of intramural basketball at UC Santa Cruz . Following graduation at UC Santa Cruz, he began coaching basketball at Mountain View High School helping out with Freshman, JV and last years' quarterfinals CCS boys' Varsity basketball team. Coach Kirkendall is now the Head Coach of the freshman boys' basketball this year as well as an assistant to the Varsity basketball team. Tim has recently passed the CBEST and is about to begin substitute teaching. Outside of coaching, Tim umpires softball, referees basketball, likes to golf, and is in a competitive adult basketball league with his fellow coaches.  

Sharissa Estremera - Basketball (Girls)
Sharissa Estremera graduated from Mountain View High School with the class of 2011. She was a four year varsity basketball player for the spartans earning awards such as Mvp and All-League. She then went to Foothill College and played basketball for two years and then transferred to Cal State East Bay to continue playing basketball, earning a degree in Human Development with an emphasis in Child Development. Sharissa is very passionate about working and coaching with kids of all ages. After graduating from college, she took on the position as an assistant coach for the girls varsity basketball team. This upcoming 2017-2018 season will be her third year coaching for the girls basketball program.

This will be her second year working at the Spartans Sports Camp as a Coach.

Kevin Mack - Basketball (Coed)
Kevin Mack is the Head Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Mountain View HS and is currently in his first season with the Spartans. A 2000 graduate of Pioneer High School in South San Jose, Kevin played three years of varsity basketball and three years of varsity baseball before graduating.

In 2002, he became the Head Frosh-Soph boys basketball coach at Pioneer and spent seven seasons there. In his time there, his teams won four league championships including three Mt. Hamilton Division titles. He also was a varsity assistant coach during this time.

In 2009, Kevin went to Los Gatos High School to become the varsity assistant boys coach. He spent three seasons in this role and in his first season the team got to the CCS Semifinals. He was the Varsity Head Coach for a season in 2012 and his last two seasons at Los Gatos he has been the Varsity Assistant girls coach. In both seasons the girls teams made it to the CCS Semifinals. Kevin has also been the badminton coach at Los Gatos for the last five years and he also coaches in the Top Flight Elite AAU basketball organization as the 7th grade boys coach.

Outside of coaching, he plays slow pitch softball and likes to golf. Kevin lives in south San Jose with his girlfriend Melanie.

Frankie Wilson - Basketball (Coed)
Coach Wilson has played 16 years of competitive basketball, including 4 years at Pioneer High School where he graduated in 2011. Following his graduation in 2011 he immediately started coaching at Los Gatos High School as the head coach of the Freshmen boys basketball team for three seasons. During this same time he also was an assistant coach for the frosh-soph and Varsity boys teams at Los Gatos. Frankie also played 4 years of high school baseball and currently lives in south San Jose.

CC Cordero - Cheer (Coed)
CC Cordero been coaching cheerleading since 1993. She has coached and choreographed for nationally ranked cheer teams for the Mountain View Marauders, Mountain View HS and Gold Star Cheer & Hip-Hop teams as well as Worlds ranked hip-hop teams. She is currently the Head Coach for MVHS Cheer team and the Program Director/Head Coach/Choreographer for the Gold Star All-Stars and Gold Star Gymnastics in Mountain View, as well as USASF Professional Member, USASF All-Star Cheer level certified, USASF All-Star Dance certified, First Aid and CPR certified and AACCA certified.  

Ryan Roa - Cheer (Coed)
Ryan Roa started cheerleading for Gold Star All Stars in 2002. In 2009, he became the captain of the SF State Cheer Team. Ryan has coached and choreographed for nationally ranked cheer teams as well as Worlds ranked hip-hop teams for Gold Star Cheer & Hip-Hop. He is currently the Assistant Coach for the MVHS Cheer team and the Coach/Choreographer for multiple teams with Gold Star All-Stars in Mountain View. Ryan is also a staff member for JAMZ Cheer & Dance Company and hosts family events as a Talent with Radio Disney. He is a USASF Professional Member, USASF All-Star Cheer level certified, and has been consistently training within all areas of the USASF curriculum.

Diane Esparza - Color Guard (Coed)
Diane Esparza is an Educational Specialist at Mountain View High School, she has been working in special education since 1998. Diane has a long history in the color guard and dance world starting as a performer in 1984 with the Santa Clara Vanguard B Corps. She spent the next 13 years performing with the Vanguard moving up the ranks where she was Color Guard Captain for the A corps from 1994-1996. Diane began teaching high school Color Guard in 1993 at Homestead High School, she has also taught locally at Saratoga, Los Altos, Los Gatos and is currently at Mountain View High. Diane spent some time in Connecticut working at East Lime High School and with the Connecticut Hurricanes Drum and Bugle Corps. Diane went back to her roots from 2001-2005 to take over the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadet Corps Color Guard Program, In 2006 she went to work with the Vanguard A Corps. After moving to Orange County for a few years Diane went back to work with the cadet program from 2009-2012. She was also a part of the teaching staff for the Santa Clara Vanguard World Winter Guard for the 2006, 2010-2012 seasons.

Alex Yerena - Hip Hop (Coed)
Alex began coaching for gold star Hip Hop program in the summer of 2015 – a high energy, exceptionally animated, extremely positive addition to our award winning dance program. Alex is an incredibly industrious young man – not only working for the City of Mountain View as a Recreational Leader in their camps, he also dances and choreographs for both Gold Star and his high school dance team. He is CPR and First Aid certified and plans to one day be a pediatrician. With his easy-going manner with children, his endless supply of energy, his stalwart work ethic, and professionalism, we have no doubt he will be successful in whatever he pursues – we are just pleased that right now he has chosen Gold Star.

Aria Rahimi - Hip Hop (Coed)
Aria began coaching at Gold Star in the winter of 2016, and has been a member of our Open Hip Hop Team since 2015. His team qualified for the US Trials and placed third, then performed at Worlds and won ninth, competing against teams from all over the globe. Aria taught dance when he was still in high school and is currently working with the afterschool program at the City of Mountain View while taking classes at Foothill College. Aria’s humor draws the children to him, his talent in dance keeps them engaged, and his patience helps them to perfect their craft.

Alyssa Fong - Lacrosse (Girls)
Alyssa graduated from Mountain View High School in 2015 where she played lacrosse for three years and was a member of the 2013 inaugural team. She is currently playing on the club lacrosse team at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where she is a first year college student majoring in Kinesiology.

She has worked the SSC girl’s lacrosse camp for the past two years making her qualified for this position. She is a huge supporter of the continuation of Mountain View’s lacrosse program and loves teaching children to help them develop their skills.
 

Al Valdez - Soccer (Boys)
Al has played soccer from 1975 - 1978 with Sunnyvale United, under the direction of Mike Salveimini. Afterwhich, he played for Haduk International in San Jose from 1978 - 1980 under the direction of Joe Zigzag. In 1980, Al joined the U.S. Marines Corps where he played for the Commanding Generals 1st Marine Division West Coast team from 1981- 1983. From 1984 - 1989, Al played for the 3rd Marine Airwing Team.

Al's soccer experience has taken him to Australia, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Panama and several different states across the U.S. In 1990, Al began his coaching career as Head Coach for the 16th Marine Airwing Team through his retirement in 2000. Al has coached at Mission Viejo High and El Toro High Schools in Orange County from 1999 - 2005; at which time he relocated to the Bay Area.

Al has been the Assitant Boys Varsity Coach at Mtn View High school from 2010 to the present. As well as participated in the AYSO Sunnyvale program as Head Coach for a number of years. Coaching a range of age groups, male teams and female teams has made Al a uniquely diverse coach with a broad understanding of the needs of the participants.

Janae Gonzalez - Soccer (Girls)
Janae is currently a sophomore at Santa Clara University, originally from Folsom, California. She is a member of the women's soccer team where she has scored 4 goals, earned WCC All-Freshmen selection and All-Academic Honoree. She played club soccer for Galaxy Blues where she also started to assistant coach youth teams at the age of 13. Since the age of 13 she has coached individual trainings, futsal teams, and ran clinics/camps. A part from club she was a member of the u17 Mexican National Team that won CONCACAF Qualifiers in 2013 and later representing Mexico in the u17 World Cup where they lost in the Quarter Finals. She earned two player of the match awards and was awarded the FIFA Best Goal of the World Cup. The 2016/2017 season was her first year assistant coaching the Mountain View Women's soccer team.

Frank Smyth - Tennis I & II (Coed)
Coach Frank is in his 14th year as tennis coach at MVHS for both boys and girls teams. He is a certified teaching professional with the PTR. Coach Frank has participated in the junior team tennis program at Cuesta Park for over 12 years and he has helped many players move on to play high school tennis at Mountain View High School.

Kolisa Nhlapo - Track & Field (Coed)
Kolisa Nhlapo graduated from Mountain View High School in 2014 where she ran Track & Field for three years breaking school and county records, winning MVP, and competing in state meets. She was then recruited to run and hurdle for the UC San Diego NCAA D1 team, where she pursues an academic focus in human health.

She has been a private track and field trainer for high schoolers looking to enhance their technical skills as well as those looking to develop their strengthening and stretching techniques. She has previous work experience with Spartans Sports Camp where she fostered technical skills, provided guidance on how to be a team player in a solitary sport, demonstrated how to take care of oneself on and off the track, and exemplified a positive and supportive attitude.

Josh Sullivan - Volleyball (Boys)
Josh played 4 years of varsity volleyball (2 years at Branham High School and 2 years at Monta Vista High School). His primary position was setter, but he's played all. This will be his 4th year coaching (1 year at Kennedy Kennedy Middle School, 2 years at MVVC, and he's in his 2nd year at Mountain View High School).

Hayley Sturgeon - Volleyball (Girls)
Hayley graduated form Mountain View High School in 2013 where she played volleyball all four years. She played club for City Beach and MVVC where her team went to nationals four times. She now attends Southwestern Oregon Community College where she plays volleyball and is getting a communications degree. She plans to transfer to a 4 year university to continue her volleyball career.

She has worked the girls volleyball camp since 2012 and also works multi-sport camps.

Dave Winn - Volleyball, Advanced (Girls)
Dave Winn is the current head Girls Varsity volleyball coach at Mountain View High School. He is also a coach at Mountain View Volleyball Club.

In Dave’s 15 year career as a high school Varsity coach, his teams have amassed over 400 victories. At Palo Alto HS, Dave guided the Vikings to 7 league championships in a row and garnered back to back California State Championships in 2010 and 2011. Dave has also earned 4 Junior Olympic medals coaching club volleyball teams. He has helped numerous student athletes achieve success in securing collegiate volleyball opportunities.

Dave’s coaching philosophy is to teach his athletes life lessons through competition in volleyball. His camp attendees will get a good technical understanding of the game while increasing their desire to learn more and have fun.

Head Coach TBA - Water Polo (Boys)

Drew Enlow - Water Polo (Girls)
Drew Enlow has been the Girls Water Polo Head Coach at Mountain View High School since 2010. Coach Drew has been playing and coaching water polo for more than 12 years and is excited to coach the Spartans Sports Camp. After swimming at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas, Drew went to Iowa State University where he was a Collegiate Water Polo Association All Academic, All Conference, and All American player. As a graduate student at ISU, he continued coaching the team and in 2006, led them to the National Collegiate Club Championship Tournament.

For the past 6 years, Drew has worked as a Materials Engineer at Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company in Sunnyvale and he continues to play Masters Water Polo in Sunnyvale and Morgan Hill.
 

Emily Enlow - Water Polo (Girls)
Emily Enlow has been coaching the JV Girls Water Polo team since 2010. After being a standout swimmer and soccer player at West Delaware High School in Manchester, Iowa, Coach Emily went to Iowa State University where she founded the Women’s Water Polo Team. In two seasons, she won All Academic, All Conference, All American, and Conference MVP honors. Emily has additional experience coaching swimming and looks forward to another great season with Mountain View High.

Emily is currently working on her Masters Degree in Materials Engineering at San Jose State while working full time at Lockheed Martin. She continues to swim and run competitively, as well as play Masters Water Polo.
