Learn valuable skills from MVHS basketball coaches and alumni in this half-day camp.
Shooting, ball-handling, and defense will be among the skills covered in a high-energy,
fast-paced environment. This is a great opportunity to have fun, stay active, and work
on your game during winter break.
Open to boys & girls in grades 3-8, the camp will take place 9 am - 12 pm the following Saturdays in the MVHS gym (no camp Sep 30):
The camp rate is $375 for all 7 Saturdays (or $60 daily rate), and includes a custom basketball, t-shirt, water bottle, and drawstring backpack.

Doug Wiersig, Administrative Director
Doug Wiersig graduated from Mountain View High School with the class of 2005, and went on to earn a BS in Crop Science & Management from UC Davis, graduating in 2010. Further pursuing his academics, Doug earned a MS in Horticulture & Agronomy from UC Davis. Doug works full time as an Account Manager for Cagwin & Dorward Landscape in San Jose.
Doug was involved as a player, coach, and volunteer with the MVHS Boys Basketball team for over 10 years. Doug coached in 2015 as an assistant for the Foothill College women's basketball team and in 2016 he was head coach for the freshman boys basketball program at MVHS. Last year, Doug was the head coach of the MVHS girls JV basketball team. Doug also has experience coaching at the middle school level - he was an assistant at Blach for 2 seasons. In addition, he was a graduate manager for the UC Davis men's basketball team in 2011-12.
2017 is his sixth year as the Camp Director for Spartans Sports Camp.
Richard Appler, Associate Director
An MVHS alum, Richard was a four year basketball player for the Spartans, earning all-league honors in his senior season. While pursuing his degree in Broadcast & Electronic Communications at San Francisco State University, Richard is also a serving as a Site Manager for Recess 101, currently working at St. Justin School in Santa Clara.
Richard has a strong passion for coaching basketball, and has been doing so locally for over seven years. After three seasons as Frosh/Soph coach and one season as a Varsity Assistant, he was recently named Head Coach of the Boy's Varsity team at Lynbrook High School in San Jose.
2018 will be Richard's 7th summer as Associate Director for Spartans Sports Camp.
Coach Kirkendall has played 18 years of competitive basketball, including 4 years at Pioneer High School and 4 years of intramural basketball at UC Santa Cruz . Following graduation at UC Santa Cruz, he began coaching basketball at Mountain View High School helping out with Freshman, JV and last years' quarterfinals CCS boys' Varsity basketball team. Coach Kirkendall is now the Head Coach of the freshman boys' basketball this year as well as an assistant to the Varsity basketball team. Tim has recently passed the CBEST and is about to begin substitute teaching. Outside of coaching, Tim umpires softball, referees basketball, likes to golf, and is in a competitive adult basketball league with his fellow coaches.
